Windows Vista: Installation

Today I had an oppotunity to install Windows Vista.
(Just for use of software tests; the MSDN subscription service allows test use of the Windows operating systems).

Vista I got is a product release, not a RC (release candidate), not a beta.
First of all, I tried to install it into my test environment; VMWare Server on a IBM IntelliStation workstation (Xeon 1.7GHz dual, 2GB memory).

MSDN 経由で Windows Vista 日本語版（RCやベータではなく正式版）を入手したので（ソフトウェア互換性テスト用です）、早速テスト環境にインストールしてみました（マシンは英語のほうに書いた IntelliStation です）。

Note: physical DVD is required - 実際に DVD に焼かないといけない

Installation will fail under the VMWare Server VM if the installation source is a iso image; installation program said that some required
device drivers were missing. Physical DVD is required.

VMWare Server でインストールするときは iso イメージではダメです。デバイスドライバの不足、と告げられてしまいます。一旦 DVD に焼いておく必要がありました。なぜだろう… DVD を入れて電源入れ直し。

Installation Details - time table

• 2.58pm insert the Windows Vista DVD and power-on the VM - DVD 挿入してVM起動
• 2.58pm input product key, accept EULA, select installation destination.
• 3.00pm start installation (copying and extracting system files).
• 3.20pm 1st restart (automatically)
• 3.35pm 2nd restart (automatically)
• 3.40pm create user account, set computer name, select protection policy, set time zone
• 3.42pm press 「開始（start)」 button, causes running performance optimization automatically.
• 3.44pm log on screen.

Impression

The instllation was very smooth than that of some trials (e.g., here [Japanese]  ) using RC or beta which reports that the installation had required hours.

時刻表の通り、非常にスムーズに導入できました。こちらのページでは相当長くかかったようですが、さすがに製品版は最適化を施したのでしょうか？
